American Ordnance LLC, operator of the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, produces the 120mm M830 and M830A1 Tank cartridge ammunition for the U.S. Army, Marines and other State Department approved customers.
USE: The M830 cartridge is a high explosive multi-purpose cartridge which has anti-armor and anti-personnel capabilities. The M830A1 is a high explosive anti-tank and air defense multi-purpose, tactical service round with tracer. These cartridges are fired from the 120mm smooth bore M256 cannon.
DESCRIPTION: The M830 rounds consist of a steel body with pressed explosives surrounding a copper shape charge liner and wave shaper. The projectile embodies a steel spike with a shoulder and nose switching mechanism for full frontal area functioning and graze impact which initiates a base detonating fuze. The projectile body has a copper obturator, boom and fin assembly for flight stabilization. The fin contains a tracer for projectile to target visual tracking. The M830A1 consist of a metal case base, a combustible cartridge case, case adapter, propellant and primer. The sub-caliber projectile combines a fuzing system and a chemical energy warhead. For training use, the M831 is provided (see M831 and M831A1 data sheet).

American Ordnance LLC, operator of the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, produces the 120mm M865 Tank cartridge ammunition for the U.S. Army, Marines and other State Department approved customers.
USE: This cartridge is a kinetic energy target practice round and is for use with the 120mm smooth bore M256 cannon. It is designed to simulate the service round characteristics at reduced maximum ranges to allow practice firings on short range training areas.
DESCRIPTION: The cartridge 120mm Training Practice, Cone Stabilized, Discarding Sabot with Tracer (TPCSDS-T) contains a propulsion system consisting of a stub metal case with combustible cartridge case, granular propellant, and primer while the projectile consists of a sub-projectile and aluminum sabot. Reduced range is achieved by the aerodynamic blocking effects of the fin. The fin assembly also contains a tracer. The M865 is the training round for the M829 series service round.
Length: 34.7 in
Weight: 41.9 lbs
American Ordnance LLC, operator of the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, produces the 120mm M1002 cartridge ammunition for the U.S. Army and Marines.
USE: This cartridge is a Multi-Purpose Anti-tank, Target Practice with Tracer (MPAT-TP-T) round for use in the 120mm smooth bore M256 cannon.
DESCRIPTION: This low cost design provides visual, weight and ballistic match similar to the M830A1 tactical round. The design also incorporates a nose switch to enhance soldier training.
Projectile: Training with Simulated Nose Switch
Muzzle Velocity: 1,427 m/s
American Ordnance LLC, operator of the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, produces the 120mm M1028 Canister Tank cartridge ammunition for the U.S. Army and Marines.
USE: These provide armor units with a quick lethal option at ranges between 200 – 500 meters. The round can be used to clear dismounted enemy, break up ambushes, stop infantry attacks and support up ambushes, stop infantry attacks and support friendly assault operations.
DESCRIPTION: The 11kg payload consists of tungsten pellets. The cartridge has also been successfully tested against vehicles, structural walls and for obstacle reduction capabilities. Lethality has even been demonstrated on targets behind these structures.
Projectile: Canister with Tungsten Pellets
Muzzle Velocity: 1,410 m/s
